From Uche Usim, Abuja
Battle-ready policemen yesterday stormed the head office of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Herbert Macaulay Way, Central Business District, Abuja where they took strategic positions and quizzed anyone coming into the place.
Saturday Sun learnt that the security operatives were drafted to the national oil company following intelligence report that some civil society groups planned to protest and perhaps disrupt operations at the place over recent revelations of alleged gross misconduct leveled against the Corporation by the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu.
When Saturday Sun visited the NNPC headquarters yesterday around 10am, the NNPC towers wore a different look.
It was fortified with many police personnel and their anti-riot vehicles.
It was further gathered that some civil rights groups had planned to protest to compel the government to look into the allegations Kachikwu leveled against Baru.
When contacted, the Spokesman of NNPC, Ndu Ughamadu did not take his calls.
